The Wok

Unblocking Community Potential

The Wok is a held container for communities or groups to get real with each other about disagreements, conflicts, resentments, revenge, manipulation, or other shadowy things that are happening. It is about having the difficult conversations you’ve been avoiding and using group intelligence to navigate toward the purpose of the group. It is not a mediated conversation, or therapy, or supervision. It is about igniting the true potential of the group to do what it is meant to do together, taking note of where each person is allowing and causing the current situation to occur, and where each person has the agency and clarity to leverage toward collaboration and high-level fun.

The Wok is a space to reveal what is going on, get vulnerable, and find out what your role in the mess is. The Wok is not a space for people to attack each other. It is a space for taking responsibility and empowering the group.

How a Wok Goes

A Wok has an inner circle and an outer circle. The inner circle is formed when one person sits in the inner circle and calls specific other people in with whom to have the difficult conversation. Or, when someone asks other people who need to have this conversation to sit in the inner circle. By being present at a Wok, you are willing to go in and take a seat if asked. The people in the outer circle (not outside!) are resources and are part of the process. They might need to be called in to empower the inner circle’s conversation.

The Wok ends when the next steps are clear for everyone (which also means that proposals and consequences are clear).

Woks usually last more than 1 hour.
